Banners
Have you every clicked on a page and seen a banner that says click here?
I am willing to bet that you have. Banners are the most popular form of
advertising on the World Wide Web. Banners can be as effective in a web
page, as a good off-the-wall commercial can be in a prime time slot. It
is important your banner displays the right attitude and portrays exactly
what your company stands for.
Some studies have shown that a good banner put in a prime slot on a website
can bring in as much revenue for a company as a good commercial during
a National Football League Game. This is what I am trying to create for
you. A banner that will pull people towards your website. The banner the
customers see's will most likely be the very first impression that the
customer will get of your site, so it needs to be a good one.
Imagine for a second, that you are looking for something on the internet,
very much like you are now, except, you don't know exactly what it is you
want. Then you click on a page similiar to the one you are on now. You
see a banner at the top of the page. It catches your eye. Go ahead click
on it(make sure you click with your right mouse button and click "open
in new window"). Was the product something worth looking at. Imagine it
was exactly what you were looking for. And you found it in the most unexpected
spot. That is the key to advertising.
Let's say you are a car salesman and you are looking for a place to put
a billboard ad. The First choice is on the street with all the car lots,
right...of course, however where is the second choice. I would put one
next to a street that has a large national bank on it. Why, because people
will see the sign, see that bank and say "I can get a loan, I think I want
a new car". But now you are thinking, "but what's the chance she will come
to me". I don't know. But, that chances are, somebody else has done the
same thing and gotten someone else thinking about cars. The fact is, when
I look for a car, I don't go to the car lot, I drive around for a while
and just look around. If I saw a billboard, it get's stuck in my head and
I won't buy a car until I go and check that lot.
Why am I talking about cars, because, banner placement is similiar to the
billboard placement. As with the banner, you can find what you are looking
for in the most unexpected of places. So, I guess what I am saying is,
if you are selling computer parts, don't advertise on Dell.com.
Put your ad on NFL.COM, that is where
you get your hits at.
I hope my crude examples above have proven my points, banners are very
important in advertising on the web. They are the biggest form of advertising
available, they must make a first good impression and must be placed in
choice spots. |
